Activities at Bearmouth Ranch
From the river at the gate to the dark sky above the fire, Bearmouth was shaped to hold an entire range of experiences — active or unhurried, alone or together, all without leaving the property.
Wildlife & On Foot
This land belongs to its animals as much as to its guests. Elk move through the lower meadows at dawn, deer graze within sight of the lodge, and black bear and golden eagles are regular, quiet neighbors. No safari trucks, no crowds — just a porch, a pair of binoculars, and the patience to watch.
Wildlife viewing
Thousands of acres, a hundred years of history, and the kind of wildlife most people only see in photographs — all reachable on two feet, two wheels, or simply from the porch.
Hiking
Trails lead out from the lodge toward some of the ranch's most striking viewpoints — and to a handful of remote cabins tucked into the landscape, perfect for a picnic, a quiet afternoon, or simply the satisfaction of having walked somewhere worth walking to.
Biking Trails
Wind through timber and open range on trails built for riders of every level. Borrow a bike from the lodge and spend an afternoon discovering corners of the property you'd never reach on foot — or by car.
Garnet Ghost Town
A short drive from the ranch sits Garnet, one of Montana's best-preserved ghost towns — a collection of weathered buildings left largely as they were when the gold ran out. It's a quiet, almost eerie glimpse into the region's mining history, and a memorable half-day excursion for curious guests.
Side-by-Side & Motorcycle Tours
Add-On ExperienceGuided rides across the ranch's backcountry roads reach places few guests ever see — high ridgelines, sweeping valley views, and miles of open terrain beyond the trails. Available as an add-on, with vehicles, gear, and routes tailored to your group.
On the Water
The river runs near enough to hear, and the pond sits close enough to reach before breakfast. Two very different ways to spend a morning — both within steps of the lodge.
Just outside the ranch entrance, the Clark Fork offers some of the finest trout water in Montana. Wade in for an afternoon or bring a guide for the full experience — either way, the river is close enough that "just outside" means exactly that.
Clark Fork River Access & Fishing
For guests who'd rather not venture far, the onsite pond is stocked and ready. Cast a line before breakfast, after dinner, or any time the mood strikes — no waders required, no plans necessary.

Evenings at the Ranch
As the light fades, the ranch settles into its own rhythm — fires lit, ovens warming, and a handful of spaces built for nothing more than gathering together.
After a day on the river or the trail, the hot tub offers exactly what it should: heat, stillness, and a view of the mountains that doesn't ask anything of you. Best enjoyed after dark, when the steam rises into a sky full of stars.
Hot Tub
A proper outdoor grill awaits for guests who want to take dinner into their own hands. Whether it's a quick lunch between activities or a full evening cookout under the open sky, the BBQ is ready whenever you are.
BBQ & Pizza Oven
Rainy afternoon or simply a change of pace, the game room offers something for every age — a space to unwind together, away from screens and schedules, where the only agenda is enjoying each other's company.
Game Room
As the Montana night settles in, the outdoor fireplace becomes the natural gathering point — a place for the day's stories, a last glass of wine, and the kind of quiet that only comes once the stars are out.
